New EPSRC-funded network to support collaboration and translation for image-guided therapies
Image-guided therapy (IGT) combines simulation and modelling, imaging and sensing, computing and robotics as well as visualisation to improve the localisation and targeting of pathological tissue with surgical instruments and focused energy delivery.
The aim of the newly awarded EPSRC UK Image-Guided Therapies Network+ is to fertilise and enhance collaboration across the UK IGT community and promote relationships with industry, supporting the ability to clinically translate IGT to realise patient benefit.
The network will allow researchers at member institutions to collaborate and nurture interdisciplinary research ideas and proposals. Through engagement with industrial stakeholders, the network will provide a mechanism for transitioning EPSRC-funded research into clinical translation through the development of commercial products. Three networking events will be organised annually, in addition to a funding programme for proof-of-concept projects and support for early career mobility.
The official launch event will be held at UCL on Friday 24 June 2016. Future networking and workshop events will take place at partner institutions across the UK, with funding available to support member attendance though reimbursing travel and accommodation costs.
The EPSRC UK Image-Guided Therapies Network+ will be led by four academic institutions (University of Manchester, Imperial, University of Sheffield and University College London) and supported by a wider network of UK-based partner institutions and industry stakeholders (inc. VisionRT, Siemens, Elekta). Management support will be provided by the UCL Institute of Healthcare Engineering.
A new website will be launched in line with the launch event, but until that point please contact email@example.com with any enquiries regarding membership.
